WA’s $15 million Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Program

“The State Government's $15 million Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Program aims to realise agriculture's potential to sequester carbon in the landscape and contribute to the growth of the Western Australian carbon farming market. These on-ground projects will deliver environmental, social and economic co-benefits and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the farming industry.”

The CF-LRP was released Monday 5th July 2021, where the Hon. Allanah McTiernan MLC. Minister for Agriculture and Food stated, "The Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Program has been specifically designed to help farmers overcome financial barriers to entering the carbon market and to increase carbon in the landscape”. To read more from Ms MacTiernan, jump over to Farm Weekly for their coverage of the program.

Farmers will be able to participate through two streams:

1. ACCU Plus: which offers up-front funding for new Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) carbon farming projects that deliver one or more priority co-benefits in return for an agreed number of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).

2. Future Carbon: providing grants to establish innovative carbon sequestration pilot projects, activities and trials to support the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.

If you’re interested in participating, head over to their Expression of Interest page to see what activities you can apply for, and what eligibility requirements there are. All additional resources or information you may find helpful can be found at the Resources for Proponents page.

Expressions of Interest close 12 noon (AWST) Friday 20 August 2021.
