Tackling changing farming at Lortleaze

On a broadacre cropping and sheep enterprise at Cascade, farmer Simeon Roberts is taking measures to tackle changing farming parameters resulting from climate changing. Salinity, waterlogging and the loss of native vegetation are all being tackled with measures including a 16km drainage system. The Roberts family has farmed "Lortleaze" since it was first established as a farming property. Mr Robert's grandparents and parents were aware of the degradation of the natural environment in the wake of broadscale clearing in the area, and have been involved in landcare and rehabilitation of the farmland for many years. They are aware of the impact climate change will have on their work, and are determined to take steps to adapt and mitigate in the face of the changing climate. Support from South Coast NRM has bolstered efforts being made by this family to restore the on-farm landscape.

This project is delivered by South Coast NRM, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
